Doodle Care - FAQ’S
When should i start my doodle getting professionally groomed?
We suggest bring them in as soon as possible to the salon. Most puppies have all the required shots by 16 weeks. In the meantime get them used to being brushed and bathed at home! This will make their life a lot easier at the salon and start them off for a more successful future with their coat maintenance.
How often should I brush my doodle?
Every single day! Especially pay attention to the tail, under the armpits, behind the ears, and the legs. We suggest getting a long pin slicker brush and a comb to check your work as you brush along. The comb will ensure you are not missing any tangles. The only exception to this rule is if they get a short cut all over and are kept on a schedule. A short cut would be anything shorter than 1/4” and on a 6 week schedule. We know you want to keep them fluffy and cute but that comes with maintenance!
how often should my doodle get groomed?
Depending on the style and length of cut it should be from every 4 week to every 6 weeks, but never longer than 8 weeks, even for the most practical haircut!
How should i bathe my doodle at home In between grooms?
Never use human shampoo products! Dogs coats require a different PH Balance. You need to brush first before you wash. Make sure that all mats are removed prior to bathing or the mats will tighten more with water being on them.
After you wash the dog, blot dry with a towel, do not rub as this can cause matting! For better results, buy a pet dryer for your pup. Do not use a person hair dryer as the heat can make your puppy pass out from heat exhaustion!
How Often Should I bathe my doodle?
Doodles should be washed when they look dirty, which will probably be about every 2 weeks. Active puppies will likely need more. Also dogs that go to the beach or get wet and dirty often will require more frequent bathing.
Why did my puppies coat change?
Your Goldendoodle could start to lose its puppy fur and develop an adult coat between the ages of 4 and 8 months. Depending on the exact kind of fur, this process may be slow and scarcely perceptible, rapid and evident, or protracted and difficult. The color and texture of their pelt can also vary.
why was my doodle shaved?
There may come a time where your doodle has become matted to a point that the only humane and safe option is to get shaved. A matted coat is heavy and pulls on the skin, it can cause a lack of blood flow to the skin and cause a series of issues. Once a dog is shaved, it can expose old wounds, bruises, sores, hot spots, parasites, and many other things on the skin that could not be seen under the coat. We do everything in our power to demat in NON-extreme cases and avoid shaving whenever possible. However, we need your help at home to make sure we will not need to shave your doodle unless that is the haircut that best suits your lifestyle.
